Job Summary

The Landscape Sales Designer serves as a skilled professional responsible for leading client interactions, developing creative designs, and managing project sales from conception to completion. This role requires proficiency in meeting with clients, understanding their needs, and translating those requirements into comprehensive landscape designs. The designer utilizes computer-aided design tools, estimating software such as LMN, and artistic abilities to craft attractive and functional landscapes. In addition to creativity, this position demands strong estimating and presentation skills, as the designer is responsible for pricing projects and presenting them to clients, ultimately driving sales and customer satisfaction.

Position Overview

As the primary client contact, the Landscape Sales Designer listens attentively to customer requests and ensures that all designs align with the specified parameters. The designer enhances the client experience by providing visual aids, such as pictures and samples, or by inviting clients to Lamm Gardens to interact directly with plant materials. Acting as both designer and salesperson, this individual represents the company’s values and maintains direct communication with clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from the initial plan and estimate to the final project acceptance and payment.

Sales, Design, and Customer Service Expectations

The Landscape Sales Designer is expected to demonstrate expertise in designing various landscape elements, which may include:

  • Patios, walls, and walkways
  • Plantings
  • Decks
  • Arbors and pergolas
  • Fire and water features
  • Customized lawns
  • Landscape management solutions
  • Seasonal displays and planters
  • Landscape lighting
  • Outdoor rooms

The designer coordinates site and office meetings with clients to accurately determine their needs and preferences, using active listening and thoughtful questioning. Throughout the sales process, the designer remains the central point of contact, responsible for ensuring a seamless client experience.

Responsibilities include determining the overall project cost and contributing to the development of both residential and commercial sites. The designer conducts thorough site examinations, analyzing soil quality, existing vegetation, natural and artificial lighting, visual aesthetics, and architectural characteristics of the property.

The role also involves attending pre-construction meetings with the landscape production manager and site foreman, providing project layouts, and conducting site visits during construction. Regular communication with homeowners and subcontractors is essential, and participation in public or media presentations may be required to discuss project concepts. The designer must ensure that all work protects natural resources, such as trees and soil, from adverse impacts.

Expertise in plant material—including identification, handling, installation, fertilization, watering, pruning, and chemical treatments—is essential. Additionally, the designer must possess knowledge of correct construction practices for hardscape installations and proper grading techniques to ensure adequate drainage.
